For us in Cartagena, days at the beach were about one thing - relaxing in the sun. We explored 3 beach clubs out of the dozens on offer for the perfect way to 'acostar en el sol'.
Transportation to 2 of them was from Bocagrande. The other from the 'muelle' outside of the main gate of the old city. It's best to organise your beach club stay online through the club's own websites so that all fees are taken care of ahead of time. If not, you might find yourself completely overwhelmed with boat operators trying to sell you transportation. We almost learned the hard way and were about to pay double for the boat ride out, but were saved by a rep from the beach club.
The closest clubs are located a 10-minute boat ride away on Tierra Bomba. Bomba Beach Club has a busier, younger vibe with a heavier sound-system while Namaste next door, was just what the name implies - healthier food, massage and chilled music.
Our final island beach day took us out to the Islas del Rosario and a small club on Isleta called Islabela. This was almost exclusively 'sleeping in the sun' with an occasional swim-out, local lunch and a bit of a bumpy hour-long boat ride to and from.
